A few of my cute laurels got into BYU. I was so excited for them. And I've had this Y-shaped cookie cutter for years and have never had a reason to bust it out. This was the perfect opportunity.
Jason and I worked together in the kitchen making the perfect sugar cookie dough and cream cheese frosting. I made and shaped the dough, Jason shoveled them onto the cookie sheet and kept them looking clean and straight. We're a pretty good team.
Mold. Cut. Bake. Decorate. Repeat.
When we finally ran out of dough, we piled them onto plates and donned our BYU gear. Jason put his BYU beanie on and I looked at him and said, "J, the beanie is over the top. Why don't you take it off. They're going to think we're fanatics and crazy."
Earlier in the afternoon, I had been reading my book "Daring Greatly" and had shared with Jason one of her guideposts for Wholehearted living--"Cultivating Laughter, Song, and Dance: Letting Go of Being Cool and 'Always in Control.'" I had told him how great I thought that was and that I wanted to make sure I wasn't wrapped up in seeming/looking/acting cool so I could cultivate laughter in my life.
Jason responded perfectly with "Kate come on, we're letting go of being cool, right?"
"You're right. Let's go!"
None other than your BYU Spirit Squad spreading Y-shaped sugar cookie cheer to newly admitted Cougars! |
We had so much fun. When the girls opened their doors we started singing "Rise and shout the cougars are out!"
It's a little embarrassing to admit. I told myself I wouldn't be that crazy BYU mom. But it sure was fun to make those girls feel excited about going to BYU. We had been feeling especially nostalgic for our BYU days and it was the perfect way to spread sunshine.
