2015 Catch Up: Rocky Mountain National Park

During the summer, I mentioned to Jason that we need to take advantage of living in the Midwest and explore around here before we move somewhere else or move back to the west. We talked about going to St. Louis, Chicago, the Smoky Mountains, etc. Finally, we reached a consensus: Rocky Mountain National Park. It wasn't exactly what I had been going for when I brought up the need to explore and appreciate the Midwest, but we were both missing the mountains so badly that we had to take advantage of Jason's last week of summer--ever--and head for the hills.

Here's our photo journal from the trip.

Colorado here we come!

Day #1

Early the next morning we set out for our first hike. Our intention was to summit Mount Ida (a 13,000 foot mountain we had researched before coming on our trip) and get to it through Timber Lake. The hike was incredible.

My left hand man, setting trends with his hiking clothes.

Finally, we made it to the lake. It was spectacular.

Once we got to the lake, the weather turned cloudy and a storm was rolling in, so we ate our lunch while overlooking the lake and headed back down the mountain.

Because of the afternoon storm, we decided to drive and tour the national park from the car for the next few hours.

Day #2: Summiting Mount Ida

After we hiked Ida and ate lunch, we decided to take advantage of the rest of the day and do some of the more tourist-popular hikes. Next stop: Bear Lake

And after that, Alberta Falls

This trip was such a treasure. It was exactly what we needed. Mountains. Crisp, cool, dry air. Physical exertion. Views from the tops of mountains. Everything about it was perfect--the weather, the hikes, the views, and most of all, the company. There is no one I would rather adventure with than Jason.
