Christmastime is so magical. I love twinkle lights, the smell of spice and freshly baked gingersnaps, and decked halls. I added to our Christmas decorations this year and they brightened and cozied our house so much. I loved it.
I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas this year. Boo.
We had a really great Christmas season, though. Brenna and Logan came home from BYU, so we spent a lot of time going back and forth from KC to Topeka to spend time with them between my work shifts.
We watched movies, saw Star Wars and The Martian, baked yummy treats, went for walks, finished up Christmas shopping, did some puzzles, played Heads Up, and did a lot of relaxing and nap-taking. It was the perfect break.
Jason and I made our way back to Kansas City the day before Christmas Eve so I could work the next two days. When I got home from work on Christmas Eve, Jason had Korma Sutra--our favorite Indian restaurant--waiting for us to eat. This was the first time we've done Indian take-out on Christmas Eve, but I think it's a tradition we are going to keep around.
After our delicious dinner, we curled up on the couch, read The Gift of the Magi, and sang Christmas carols under the light of the Christmas tree. It was perfect.
On Christmas morning we woke up at 5:00, threw some breakfast quiche in the oven, and opened our presents. I loved having another Christmas just Jason and me. It has really been a treasure to share two Christmases with just our little family. It's amazing to think that next year we'll have a little one joining us. Jason went back to Topeka for the day on Christmas while I was at work. I got home before him that night, so I pulled the air mattress out and got it ready for our Christmas tradition of sleeping under the tree on Christmas night.
We laid under the glow of the tree and talked and laughed and felt so grateful to be with each other.
Finally, we turned off the lights and slept under the lights of the Christmas tree. I can't say that either of us got a very good night's rest, and Jason woke up particularly grumpy because he had slept so poorly. I guess we'll see how long he continues to join me in that tradition ;)
