I love the New Year.
In my family, we make resolutions. We tell them to the family on New Year's Eve and my mom writes them down. We remind ourselves of our goals throughout the year to see how we are doing.
I love this tradition. It occupies my mind for the last few weeks of the year and I try to be very thoughtful and deliberate about the resolutions I make.
First a review of the 2014 resolutions:
2 0 1 4
-Graduate from nursing school: check
-Pass the NCLEX: check (worst test ever--so glad it's over)
-Eat gluten free and dairy free diet for winter semester (was trying some alternative therapies for an autoimmune issue I had just found out I had, but I did it! It was a good experience. But it didn't really help the autoimmune thing, so I stopped haha)
-Do yoga three times per week: probably did yoga 5 times throughout the whole year
-Say morning prayers: ehhhhhh, no check
-Attend the temple once per month: pretty sure we did this.
-Read all the April conference talks before October General Conference: check! I listened to them as I walked in the mornings on my days off. It was fabulous.
And some of my resolutions for this coming year (I decided to make fewer, hoping for a higher success rate):
2 0 1 5
1. Repeat my affirmations every day
2. Spiritual development every day (scriptures, praying, spiritual books)
3. Yoga one time per week
4. Find three family names and do the temple work for them
5. Pass the Critical Care Registered Nurse certification exam (CCRN)
1. Affirmations. It might sound silly, but I really believe in positive thinking. And I think that I have subconsciously been plaguing my mind with negativity for a long time, without even knowing it. Bad news. So, I am on a journey to discover/understand my worth. And believe I am worth something (I will write more about this later). Here are a few of the things I repeat every day (some are more personal than others--I'll share the more generic ones)
-I have worth
-God loves me today and always
-I am a divine woman
-I am a daughter of God
-My choices will bring light, happiness, and love into my heart
-I am an agent to ACT, not an object to be acted upon
-I have faith in myself
-I have faith in God
- I can do anything with God's help
-I am capable of changing and improving
-My mind, heart, and body are strong enough to transform
Here's to a New Year of love. Love for myself, love for others, love for/from God.
2. Scripture/spiritual study and prayer. Every day. I made a personal covenant with God a few weeks ago that I would do this work if He would help me to realize and understand my worth. I truly feel better, happier, more capable to overcome the Natural Man when I do these things.
3. Yoga. Yoga is so cleansing to the mind, body, and soul. Sometimes with my work, life, and exercise my body becomes so tight and tense. I want to make relaxation a priority. I think it will help me to be more in tune with the Spirit and in my quest to feel worth, too. Win win :)
4. Temple work/Family history. I have never gotten into family history work, but I think it would be the neatest thing to find some family names and perform ordinances in the temple for them. It would be like doing missionary work, which is really important to me. I figured three names in a year is doable :)
5. CCRN. I included this work goal because I want to be the best nurse I can possibly be. So if that means studying extra and taking another certification exam, I am willing to do it. I think it will really help me broaden my knowledge when taking care of my patients and help me to be a better critical thinker. I feel like my lack of experience doesn't help with my critical thinking skills, so any extra knowledge I can gain, I want to.
I am looking forward to this year. I hope it will be filled with much growth, learning, excitement, happiness, and most of all, love. All I want is for love be the motivating force in my life. And I feel like my resolutions reflect that.
2015, here I come!
