"Mountain" Biking

(I started writing this post in November, but never finished it. So, here it is in January)

Last weekend Jason and I went "mountain" biking. Well, really, we rode our bikes on a trail. But it was really fun. I work with several guys who like to mountain bike, so I asked them about the best places to ride and they hooked me up with some great lists of parks in the area with fun trails.

On Saturday afternoon we loaded up our bikes on the back of our Civic and drove to Shawnee Mission Park, a beautiful park about 15 minutes from our house. Kansas has some amazing, HUGE parks with walking trails, lakes, playgrounds, tennis courts, disc golf courses, etc. That's something I really love here.

We started on an orange loop (easier) to get back in the swing of things, and then we came to a crossroads where we could jump onto a purple loop (more/most difficult). Jason wanted to do it, so I followed behind him. It was quite a bit more difficult. Lots of rocks and tree roots and other obstacles in the trail. I love mountain biking with lots of elevation gain, not necessarily trail obstacles. So, unfortunately, I lost my temper a few times and was bitter for a spell on the most difficult part, but when we got back on the easier loop and it felt like such a breeze! We were riding fast, whipping through the trees, feeling the cool wind on our faces. It was such a blessing to be outside, enjoying God's creations, using my body to do something hard.

Instagram caption:
"Thankful for trees and trails and a body that allows me to do what I enjoy. And a sweet husband to share life with."

I am grateful for those things. Especially the last one.

Can't wait for it to warm up a bit here in KC. As soon as it does, we'll be hitting the trails again!
